THE POWER OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT
As I was watching this video about the U.S. Supreme Court, there are many tactics I learned that the Supreme Court performs that I never knew before. This video explained to me the everyday life of the nine justices and the ways in which they come up with their overall decisions.
The Supreme Court was made in order to draw the boundaries of governmental power. The Supreme Court's main focus is to interpret the U.S. Constitution into everyday life issues and cases. John Marshall played a very crucial part in making the Constitution a key part of the judicial system. The nine justices' job is to use the words of the Constitution in order to solve problems that are occurring over 200 years later. The nine justices would use the same approach for each case in order to be as straight and fair as possible. Every petition gets the same individual consideration. They receive about 7,000 cases a year. The consideration starts off an outline of the issue, then each justice has the opportunity to say their position on the case before the debate of the issue begins.
An issue is only brought to the Supreme Court because it has become a huge topic within the public. The court is designed like a conversation where people with all different kinds of ideas, thoughts, and questions are able to talk freely and expose their opinions to the nine justices. The arguments that are proposed in front of the nine justices are devised to make a difference in the eyes of the law. The nine justices then gather and vote to explain the legal reasons for their positions on the issues. The opinion writing is then created in order to bind all other courts when it comes to future cases. The press will then spread the final decision made by the nine justices to the public in order to keep them up to date and involved.
Communication plays an intense role in the Supreme Court's day to day activities. The nine justices must communicate with each other constantly in order to make sure they make the most effective decision for the public. They must constantly compromise when it comes to deciding on specific issues because their decision holds a huge impact on millions of Americans. "The power of the court is the power of trust earned, the trust of the American people." The Supreme Court works to protect the people and their freedoms. The allowance of free communication within the Supreme Court allows for our nation to be the freest nation in the world.
