Positives & Negatives of Technology

Technology is one of the greatest inventions this world has ever seen. Technology has allowed our society to thrive in all different subjects. It has allowed us to learn new ideas and opinions in a split second. We are able to keep up with what is going on in the world around us at all times. Although technology has connected us all together, it has also drifted us apart as well. Technology is permanent, it never forgets your mistakes. Technology allows people to destroy the lives of others with a click of a button. Technology can be both very helpful, but it also can be very hurtful to society.

Throughout these two videos, I learned a lot about technology as a whole. Technology was developed to improve mankind. It was made to provide society with a simpler path to commerce and communication. In many ways, it did just that. Technology has allowed some of the greatest inventions,  such as cell phones, GPS, and computers. However, technology has also created a divided world in my opinion. If you really think about it, technology has ultimately destroyed the importance of social skills within our world. Today, people don't value human contact as much as they did in the past. Kids today aren't playing ball outside anymore, they are inside playing video games against a kid in a completely different state or country. I feel that today's technology has socially isolated us from the rest of society. We are all too caught up in ourselves and our phones, that we are missing the big picture.

In my opinion, the big picture is that technology has made society become too selfish. We are all wrapped up in our phones and our own lives, to care about others. A huge aspect of technology is personal gain. How can technology help me? What can social media do for me?  People love technology because it is all about them. I worry about this because as a society, I feel we all take part in this. We are all at fault. Have you ever had a conversation with someone, who never looked up from their phone? Not once? Technology has made us feel that we have the right to treat people any way we want. Cyberbullying and ghosting are just two examples of how people feel that they can hurt and judge others through technology without any consequences.  It's a lot easier to say mean things to someone over the computer. You don't see their expression and you don't have to take any retaliation. People don't feel as much remorse when it comes to technology, and that is both sad and frightening at the same time.

Society is too occupied with technology and themselves to realize how toxic it really is. I feel the worst part about technology is that it has led people to compare themselves to others both physically and mentally. People feel they have to basically change everything about who they are in order to post on social media. They feel the internet world won't accept them for who they really are. That's heartbreaking to me. If we can't accept people for who they are, what kind of world are we living in? What kind of people are we? We have become a society that doesn't see that we are making others feel bad about themselves.  We have let technology become a leading cause of mental health issues and suicide because we aren't willing to let others know we are also having a hard time and that we are there for them.

As a child who grew up side by side with technology, I honestly couldn't imagine my life without it. Without any thought, if I need to know the answer to something I just googled it with no question. This is another problem that technology has created instant gratification. If my phone is dead I can look something up on my computer or Ipad. People don't have to wait or go to the library to look something up. I am a little older but for young children growing up with Ipads, I see how temper tantrums can be more of a problem when the battery dies on the Ipad. Children are constantly stimulated by technology and they are not using their own minds to be creative. To me, my relationship with technology is a healthy one.  I  didn't grow up with an Ipad. I grew up having a make-believe friend putting shows on for my family and making up my own games. This led me to be more creative. I view technology as a way to present my real self to the world. I don't use technology to be someone I am not. I use it to display who I really am.  I use technology in order to share the love I have for my family and friends. I take technology very seriously, in that you never know who is on the other side of the computer. I personally don't believe in being too invested in technology. I have it, but I do not spend every waking moment on it. I believe it is important to be involved in it, but not obsessed with it. I use technology alot throughout my day, but I make myself take breaks from it throughout the day. At night, I focus on spending time with my family then scrolling through social media. I believe by being on technology all the time, this will actually make individuals be more exposed to false information. Not everything on the internet is true, and sometimes I feel as a society we forget that. I feel as a society we are too naive when it comes to the internet. The internet can definitely benefit us, but it can also ruin us.

Diffusions of Innovations

The Innovation of Snapchat    Snapchat is a mobile app that allows people to send pictures and videos to each for only a short period of time. It was created and displayed to the public in 2011.  The co-founder of Snapchat, Evan Siegel, created this app as a way to encourage a natural flow of interaction through the use of images. It allows you to have a private person-to-person conversation through the use of timed images. They're all different types of filters you can put on your images in order to make your conversations fun and interesting!    I think the reason, why the idea of Snapchat has caught on and spread quickly throughout the world, is because it gives you the ability to express yourself through a unique conversation. All the different filters within Snapchat allow people to be their real and funny self by not having to take conversations so seriously. The use of the different components on Snapchat caused the app to spreadly widely over social media beca

Breaking Twitter News

Breaking Twitter News On February 3rd, 2019, a massive security incident occurred on Twitter where people's phone numbers became matched to their username, leading people's personal information to be exposed all over Twitter.  A large network of fake accounts hacked into Twitter's API system and matched usernames to phone numbers. This process is known as scraping, in that fake accounts focus on collecting huge numbers of people's personal information and share it all over social media networks. Scraping is highly against Twitter's terms of service. It is completely illegal to gather and access information that way. The fake accounts were linked to several different countries, such as Malaysia, Iran, and Israel. Twitter released a statement tweet on their site that day explaining how they have corrected the issue, and they are going to embark on an extensive investigation to make sure this event doesn't occur again.     These types of scandal
