Fake News is Everywhere

      Facebook has focused a lot of their attention on making sure that their site is free from misinformation and fake news. They have even gone as far as to make new policies in order to keep fake news completely separate for their site. However, the editable link previews that Facebook had previously abolished because they caused misinformation, have recently resurfaced about six months ago. The editable link preview on Facebook gain people the access to edit images, headlines, and descriptions on public posts. Facebook terminated this feature back in 2017, because of the huge amount of fake news that was created because of it, but in September of 2019, it came back.

     In my opinion, I am very impressed by how serious Facebook took this fake news information from the beginning. I believe that the fake news within our media culture has gotten extremely out of hand, especially on social media. My favorite aspect of social media is that everyone is free to write about their opinion and how they feel about all topics. However, as fake news has grown within our society, we aren't able to know if that information is really how someone feels or if someone is just spreading misinformation.

      I understand it is very hard for Facebook to constantly make sure all content posted on their social media site is credible, especially in groups. I understand the difficulty Facebook was having with trying to keep fake news out of private groups. The groups are private so it a lot harder to monitor the information that is displayed within them. I honor Facebook for trying, but I believe they need to adopt a new system specifically for finding fake news. There are still tons of misinformation and low-quality content on Facebook to this day. I would advise them to continue their research over and over again because, with fake news, it can be anywhere at any moment.
